School Resource Officers

  • The Danville Community School Corporation Police Department has two full-time school resource officers (SROs).
All of our school resource officers are full-time law enforcement officers with sworn law enforcement authority who are trained in school-based policing and crisis response. All of our officers are certified school resource officers and utilize the triad concept of school-based policing of law enforcement officers, counselors and educators.

Chief Matthew Oliphant began his career with the Danville Metropolitan Police Department in 2002, after receiving his Criminal Justice Degree from Vincennes University. He worked as a Patrol Officer and Detective before assuming the full-time role of School Resource Officer at Danville Community School Corporation in 2015. In 2020, he was sworn in as the first Chief of the newly created Danville Community School Corporation Police Department. Chief Oliphant also works for the Town of Clayton, where he has been the Town Marshal of the Clayton Police Department since 2010.

He is a member of the Indiana School Resource Officer Association, National Association of School Resource Officers, Hendricks County Fraternal Order of Police, Kiwanis Club of Danville and the Hendricks County School Safety Commission.  He continues to serve on the Operations Board of the Hendricks County Communications Center, as well as the Executive Board of the Hendricks County Substance Abuse Task Force.
