eLearning Days

Scheduled eLearning Days

Reminders will be sent before each scheduled eLearning Day. The Little Warrior Learning Center Preschool and our PACE program will remain open for the entire day. All school offices and the Administration Office will be open.

These scheduled dates will be eLearning BASIC Days. Assignments will be posted in Schoology for students to complete. Teachers will be engaged in professional development, but will have time built into their schedules to answer any questions. The best way to get a hold of teachers will be by email, and they will respond as quickly as possible during their next break in training. On an eLearning BASIC Day, there should be a limited amount of student to teacher virtual engagement. DCSC Online students should look for guidance from their teachers concerning instruction on this date.

Assignments will be due when students return to school the next day.  If a child is unable to complete work in this timeframe for any reason, they should reach out to their teacher and complete work as soon as possible when they return in person. Students who do not complete the assignments and do not make contact with a teacher will be marked as absent for the period or day.

Students needing Chromebook support from our Technology Department on an eLearning Day may email ssc@danville.k12.in.us. These email requests will be answered as soon as possible between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. More involved technical issues that require a student to bring their device in for physical support will be conducted by appointment only, arranged with DCSC technology personnel.

Weather eLearning Days

Weather eLearning Closures are designed for days that fog, ice, snow, and/or temperature make it very difficult or impossible to run transportation. (Learn more about how we make a weather closure decision here.) District alerts and/or communications will indicate between BASIC and LIVE instruction during an eLearning closure. Here are the differences between the two types of eLearning Days:

eLearning BASIC Day

These days will provide our students with virtual instruction, as we have had on scheduled eLearning Days in the past. Teachers will be available to answer questions throughout the day, and assignments will be posted in Schoology for students to complete. On an eLearning BASIC Day, there should be a limited amount of student to teacher virtual engagement.

All learning activities should be posted to Schoology by 9 a.m. on the morning of the eLearning Day. Assignments will be due when students return to school. If a child is unable to complete work in this timeframe for any reason, they should reach out to their teacher and complete work as soon as possible when they return in person.

eLearning LIVE Day

An eLearning LIVE day is utilized once we have surpassed three eLearning BASIC days, as required by Indiana law. These days will provide our students with live person-to-person virtual instruction that follows their normal school day schedule, with a high amount of teacher engagement with students.

On eLearning LIVE Days, teachers are not expected to provide direct instruction for the entire duration of their class. They may teach a lesson, give the students some down time and come back to start the next lesson. They may also give students time to complete an assignment and answer any questions that may arise. During class time beyond direct instruction, teachers will remain on call and host office hours. Teachers are not expected to respond to questions outside of their normally scheduled hours.

What this means for your student:

  • Students will follow a structured schedule and join live Google Meet sessions with their teachers.
  • Students must log in at the designated times to be counted as present. The Google Meet link to join will be at the top of each teacher’s Schoology page.
  • Teachers will provide instruction, work time, and support just as they would during a regular school day.
  • Assignments and links will be posted in Schoology.

How families can help:

  • Make sure your child’s device is charged and ready.
  • Help them find a quiet workspace.
  • Encourage them to log in a few minutes early.
  • Reach out to your child’s teacher with classroom-related questions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why would Danville use an eLearning LIVE day as opposed to an eLearning BASIC Day?

A: Indiana Code allows for 3 asynchronous eLearning days to count towards the required 180 days of school.  Any inclement weather closure after day 3 would require the school day(s) to be added at the end of the school year calendar, or we can have an eLearning LIVE day instead.

Q: What is my child’s schedule for the day?

A: Linked here is our DCSC eLearning LIVE Guide, which outlines schedules and expectations by grade level. Please take a few minutes to review it so your child is ready to log in at the appropriate times.

—-

Q: Does my child have to attend every live session?

A: Yes. Students are expected to attend their scheduled live sessions just as they would attend school in person. If your child is sick or cannot attend, please report the absence to the school office as you normally would.

—-

Q: What happens if I have internet or Chromebook issues?

A: For technology questions outside the scope of the classroom teacher, please contact our technology department at ssc@danville.k12.in.us and they will be happy to help! In the email, please include all relevant information, such as:
Student Name
Student Grade Level
Detailed description of the issue

—-

Q: How is attendance taken?

A: To be considered 'in attendance' on a live e-learning day, a student must log in and participate in classes at set times.

—--

Q: Can students wear whatever they want?

A: Students should be dressed appropriately for school (appropriate pajamas are fine).

—--

Q: Does my child’s camera need to be on the entire time?

A: We ask that cameras stay on during whole-group instruction and at the teacher's request. This helps a teacher to take mandatory attendance, gauge engagement, call on students with questions, etc. During independent work time, a teacher may share that it is okay to turn off the camera.
