Bus Rules
DCSC Transportation Department Bus Safety Rules:
Our top priority is the safety of our students. Please be sure to review the following safety information to make sure we can all be as safe as possible on the road. Click here to download the full sheet (written out below).
School bus drivers represent the same position as teachers in the classroom and are to have control over all school children's route between home and school. The driver will maintain order among the children on and off the bus along the route, will treat all children in a civil manner, will see that no child is mistreated while in his/her charge, and will put foremost the care and safety of the children.
Riding the school bus is a privilege. Improper conduct on buses or at bus stops may result in the privilege being revoked. Bus safety rules are listed below. Please see that your child abides by these rules.
- Students must be waiting at their designated boarding area at least 5 minutes before the bus arrives. Students are permitted to get on and off of the bus at their assigned bus stops only. BUSES ARE NOT REQUIRED TO STOP IF YOUR STUDENT IS NOT AT THE BUS STOP.
- Each student must be seated immediately upon entering the bus
- No student may stand or move from place to place during the trip
- Indecent conduct, including boisterous or profane language will not be tolerated
- Nothing is to be CONSUMED on the bus: no drinks (except water), candy, gum or food allowed on the buses.
- Assigned seats for all students. Elementary and Middle School Students 5 Grade will be assigned in the front half of the bus.
- Students may not tease others or use their hands, feet or body in any objectionable manner, such as tripping, wrestling or hitting
- No window or door may be opened or closed except by permission of the bus driver
- Students must remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop
- Should a problem arise with a student, the driver will make every attempt to resolve it with him/her. If additional assistance is needed the driver will then contact the Transportation Director.
- School authorities may deny bus privileges to any student who refuses to conduct him/herself in an appropriate manner
- Unsafe or improper conduct at the bus stop may also lead to suspension of riding privileges
- Only 2 afternoon drop off locations will be allowed per student per school year.
Additional Safety Concerns:
-
Skateboards will not be transported on any bus at any time
-
Sports balls must be contained within an enclosed bag when the bus arrives at AM bus stop and until the bus departs PM bus stop
-
Musical instruments must be secured in the student’s possession, not placed under the seat or behind the driver’s seat.
-
If it is your child’s responsibility to get your mail, please have them do so after the bus has safely departed. Students walking in the DANGER ZONE alongside a moving bus to get mail are very unsafe and could be deadly
-
School projects that DO NOT fit in book bag must be transported by parents
