Frequently Asked Questions
When is Kindergarten Registration?
Enrollment for kindergarten begins on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. The registration process begins with this google form. Once you have completed this form, you will receive an automatic email that will explain how to complete online registration, how to sign up for a kindergarten roundup appointment, and what documents to gather together. It is important that you complete these next steps as quickly as possible so that we have accurate information and student counts. This allows us to staff appropriately, create well balanced class rosters, and communicate effectively with guardians.
What are the age requirements for Kindergarten?
In order to enroll in kindergarten, the child must be 5 on or before August 1, 2023.
We are no longer accepting applications for early entrance to kindergarten. If your child turns 5 after August 1, 2023, we will look forward to meeting them next year.
Does Danville Community School Corporation accept non-resident students?
Yes, although there is a limited number of spots available. When you complete the google form and the online registration, it is important that you indicate that you do not live in the district boundaries and that you are requesting that your student be a transfer or non-resident student. Non-resident transfer enrollment requests for the 2023-2024 school year will be accepted March 1, 2023 - June 1, 2023. Applications received after June 1, 2023, will be considered for approval based on capacity.
What is Kindergarten Roundup?
Kindergarten Roundup is a day in the spring when we have our incoming kindergarten students come to school to see a kindergarten classroom, meet a kindergarten teacher, and take a short assessment. During this time, parents/guardians will have documents copied and can meet other school staff.
When is Kindergarten Roundup and how do I sign up?
Kindergarten Roundup is scheduled for July 27, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. You can sign up for an appointment on our Signup Genius page. The link for that will be in the automatic email you get when you complete the google form for registration.
Why is Kindergarten Roundup important?
This event allows us to meet you and your student prior to the start of school. The information we collect from the readiness assessment will allow us to create balanced class rosters and to know a little bit about your child before they come to school on their first day.
What do I need to do to prepare my student for Kindergarten Roundup?
The best way to prepare your child is to share with them that they will be talking with a teacher about school and the teacher will ask some questions. Lessening the anxiety some children experience is the best preparation for the assessment. This assessment only examines a child’s readiness skills and does not determine if a child can start kindergarten or not. It is only a way for us to know more about your child when they start school.
What if I can’t schedule an appointment for July 27th?
This is the only remaining date for kindergarten roundup. If you cannot come on this date, please send an email to email@example.com letting us know.
What do I need to bring with me to Kindergarten Roundup?
A copy of your student’s birth certificate
A copy of your student’s immunization record
Proof of residency: i.e. a current utility bill or lease that includes your name and current address
Any custody or guardianship paperwork if applicable
What should my child know before kindergarten?
Kindergarten readiness includes motor skills like holding a pencil and using scissors. Self-care like getting dressed and not needing help in the bathroom are important kindergarten skills. Children who are beginning kindergarten can typically recite the alphabet, recognize their own name in print, count to ten, and identify basic colors.
When will I find out about my student’s kindergarten classroom placement and meet their teacher?
Classroom placement and back-to-school information will be available on Tuesday, August 1st. You and your student will be able to come to school to meet your teacher and drop off your school supplies on Tuesday, August 8th, the day before school begins.
