History and Characteristics
The school corporation includes light industrial areas, retail establishments, urban and rural residential housing, and rural farming areas. The school corporation was organized in 1963 and includes approximately 83 square miles. The school district's central location offers easy access to higher education, cultural experiences, entertainment, and recreation.
Danville has experienced slow, controlled growth when compared to the eastern part of the county; however, the community and the school are currently experiencing more rapid growth and development. Although agriculture remains a major contributor to the economy, light industries are being drawn to the area.
Because of the school district's proximity to the Indianapolis metropolitan area, a large percentage of the workforce is employed by Marion county businesses, industry, and government. New business firms provide local employment.
